Spring is in the air and the school year is nearing its end.  That means Prom Night is just around the corner. Since Prom is a special occasion for most high school students, many strive to look their best. They go all out by wearing a special dress with shoes and accessories to match. But if you really want to be camera-ready for the Big Event, you’ll need more than a great outfit – you’ll need healthy, glowing skin. Healthy skin is the best accessory for any special occasion with or without beautiful makeup.  Here are some tips to ensure your skin is ready and looking good for Prom Night.

There’s no need to go overboard on getting expensive treatments or trying new, powerful ingredients that you’ve never used before. Start with a simple routine of products that are right for your skin type. Establishing a consistent routine is essential for healthy, glowing skin for Prom night and beyond. Try a cleanser that is gentle enough to remove dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin, while also helping to unclog pores. Using a cleanser with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic acid, can also help exfoliate the skin and promote cell turnover. According to a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, AHAs can help improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance.

Start with a serum

Next, a good serum can help give your skin a boost of hydration and radiance. Serums are lightweight formulas that are designed to penetrate deeply into the skin, delivering potent ingredients such as vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. Niacinamide (Vit B3) is also great for helping to reduce oil production, while also brightening the skin.

Another product that can help give your skin a glow on Prom Night is a facial oil. Facial oils are rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, which can help nourish and protect the skin. They can also help improve the texture and tone of the skin. Studies suggest that plant-based oils such as argan oil, hemp oil and jojoba oil can help improve skin hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Mask it

A week or two before the Prom, use a mask that targets your skin’s needs.  Clay masks are great for those with oilier or blemish prone skin.  They help dry out existing acne and help reduce oil.  For normal or drier skins, look for masks that soothe and hydrate the skin and enhance your skin’s clarity.  To boost your glow, skip the tanning booths, which can be harmful to the skin, and try an over the counter self-tanner.  Applying it two weeks or so before the big night will allow a gradual build up of color.

Spot treat and moisturize

Finally, the night before the prom, spot treat any blemishes or dry areas on your face so makeup glides on smoothly.  And, don’t forget to moisturize the night before to ensure that you wake up with silky smooth skin that’s ready for makeup.

To enhance your natural glow, try either a cream or powder highlighter to add a touch of radiance to your skin. Highlighters are typically applied to the high points of the face, such as the cheekbones, and brow bone. They can help create a luminous, dewy look that’s perfect for prom.  Once you’ve finished applying your makeup, set it with a few spritzes of a Rosewater facial spray.  It will not only keep makeup looking fresh all night long.

So while there are many ways to create an extraordinary look, the best way to prepare for Prom or any special occasion is to start with healthy skin.  Find skincare products that work for your skin type and use them consistently and you’ll always have great skin.
