Horsetail, which is scientifically known as Equisetum arvense, has been used as an herbal remedy since ancient times, particularly in the Roman and Greek civilizations. It was traditionally used to stop bleeding, cure ulcers and wounds, and treat tuberculosis and kidney issues. The name Equisetum is derived from the Latin words equus, which means “horse,” and seta, which means “bristle.” While a plant extract from horsetail is believed to possess antioxidant and calming properties, there is no conclusive evidence to suggest its effectiveness when used topically.
