The oil derived from sunflower seeds, Helianthus annuus seed oil, is a non-volatile, non-aromatic plant oil used as an emollient in cosmetics. This seed oil is composed of around 60% linoleic acid that has the ability to replenish, fortify, and soothe skin. In addition, the oil contains other helpful fatty acids such as oleic, palmitic, and stearic, as well as a small amount of omega-3 linolenic acid. Because of its linoleic acid content, Helianthus annuus seed oil is particularly beneficial for dry, parched, or environment-sensitive skin as it helps it to produce its own lipids (fats) such as ceramides, thereby restoring its natural barrier and improving the look and feel of the skin. Moreover, the oil has a soothing effect on the skin, making it helpful in alleviating signs of skin stress or inflammation.
