Hi! I’m Elaine, and today I wanted to share a little with you about my skin care journey.

Growing up in Central Pennsylvania, my younger brother and I were raised by our single mother. She worked long hours – often night shifts – while I took on the role of babysitter.

Eventually, I started working at the mall. Later, I went to college, joined a sorority, and worked at the outlets near school.

Throughout this period, skincare was not something I gave much thought to. I didn’t wear much makeup, so washing my face in the shower was pretty much the extent of my skin care routine.

I consider myself fortunate. A combination of good genes and avoiding bad habits like smoking kept my skin in relatively good condition, even into my mid-twenties.

I did start to see the subtle signs of aging around the time I met my future husband. It’s typical for people in their mid- to late-twenties to start considering anti-aging skincare. Like most, I began shopping at Ulta, Sephora, and various department stores for scrubs, moisturizers, and serums.

But then, shortly after getting married, my husband and I were introduced to Reviva Labs through work. Since then, for the past twenty years, I’ve been using Reviva Skincare pretty much exclusively.

I still feel lucky. I had decent skin and began using “mainstream” skincare products in my twenties. Then, as I turned thirty, I discovered Reviva. And though I started focusing on prevention slightly later than some, I’ve still reaped the benefits.

It was later, after working with Stephen and Judith Strassler, founders of Reviva Labs, that I discovered how passionate they were about preventive skincare. In establishing Reviva, they traveled widely, particularly in Europe, and were inspired by the European philosophy of starting sensible skincare routines early. Beginning simple skincare at an early age can stave off aging effects and maintain healthy skin.

This philosophy influenced many of Reviva’s initial products. For instance, our Light Skin Peel Mask, which encourages gentle exfoliation to enhance the absorption of follow-up products, was introduced long before exfoliation became a mainstream discussion. Reviva was also at the forefront of incorporating hyaluronic acid for hydrated, healthy skin – and introduced products featuring elastin and antioxidants well before these ingredients became widely recognized.

Stephen’s training as an esthetician reinforced the belief that prevention is preferable to correction. He also focused on creating skincare products that were safe, effective, affordable, and suitable for all skin types.

Prevention is crucial for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin for life. Starting skincare routines early can help avoid many common skin issues. While lifestyle and environmental factors still play a role, early adoption of good skincare habits will prove beneficial in the long run.

As I mentioned earlier, skincare was not a concern of mine during my youth. Today, however, social media is influencing very young children, some of whom are not even teenagers yet. While it’s positive that children are becoming interested in skincare, the downside is they’re pulled towards unnecessary and potentially harsh products.

Encouraging young children to cleanse their face, moisturize, and apply sunscreen daily is terrific. These practices lay the groundwork for healthy habits and help prevent future problems. Ideally, as they grow-up, they’ll consult with skincare professionals to customize their skincare routine to their specific needs.

Our Free Virtual Skincare Consultations have advised several adolescents, suggesting age-appropriate skincare routines.

By cultivating good skincare habits early, they may be able to avoid the need for active anti-aging skincare for many years – provided they steer clear of trendy products that are unsuitable for their youthful skin.

Today, Reviva continues to champion preventive skincare. Our product lines are categorized into Skincare to Prepare, Skincare to Prevent, Skincare to Correct, and Skincare to Enhance.

The first two categories aim to ready the skin and help prevent damage while delaying the signs of aging. Our clay masks, cleansers, and toners prepare the skin for subsequent treatments, just as they did over five decades ago.

We offer a comprehensive range of preventive products, including serums and moisturizers enriched with antioxidants and peptides, suitable for a broad range of skin types.

We also offer corrective skincare products that feature peptides and brightening agents, all formulated to be well-tolerated. And our Skincare to Enhance line includes a variety of targeted eye products and specialty items.

While skincare was not a part of my life in my early years I feel privileged to share my knowledge and Reviva’s products with my teenage daughter.

She has embarked on her preventive skincare journey early, enabling her to maintain a youthful appearance – perhaps indefinitely, especially if she continues using Reviva Labs skincare.

And if I can leave you with one spark from today’s talk, I hope it’s the inspiration to embark on your own preventative skincare journey. Or the desire to help someone younger to do so responsibly. Remember, it’s always a good time to start taking better care of your skin!

— original first draft below –

Growing up in central Pennsylvania, my younger brother and I were raised by our single mom. She worked long hours, often night shifts, as I babysat.

Eventually I worked at the mall. Then I went off to college, joined a sorority, and worked at an outlet store.

What I didn’t think about or worry about during all this time was skincare. I also didn’t wear much makeup either.

I feel lucky. The combination of decent genes and avoiding bad habits like smoking left my skin in decent shape – even as I reached my mid-twenties.

But even I started to notice the subtle effects of aging – right around the time I met my future husband. It’s common in your mid- to late-twenties to start thinking about anti-aging. So, just like everyone else, I started to shop at Ulta and Sephora and various department stores. I used scrubs, moisturizers, and serums.

And then shortly after getting married, my husband and I were introduced to Reviva Labs through work. And since then, for the past twenty years, I’ve been using Reviva Skincare.

I still consider myself lucky. I had decent skin and started using mass market skincare in my twenties. And then, as I turned thirty, I found Reviva. Yes, I started my journey of prevention a bit late, but I’ve stilled enjoyed the benefits.

Stephen and Judith Strassler, the founders of Reviva Labs, were fervent advocates of preventative skin care. When starting Reviva, they traveled extensively, especially in Europe, and found themselves drawn to the European concept of sensible skincare started early. Simple skincare begun at an early age can avoid the effects of aging while keeping your skin healthy.

This concept inspired many of Reviva’s early products. For example, our Light Skin Peel Mask promoted gentle exfoliation – to allow follow-up products to absorbed better – long before any type of exfoliation was even discussed. Reviva also pioneered the use of hyaluronic acid to promote healthy, hydrated skin. And Reviva debuted products that featured elastin and antioxidants long before these ingredients were commonplace.

Stephen’s education as an esthetician cemented the idea that prevention is better than correction. Likewise, he also leaned into the concept of creating skincare that was safe, effective, and affordable – while also being usable by all skin types.

Prevention is key to a lifetime of healthy and youthful-looking skin. By starting to care for your skin early you can delay and sidestep many typical skin problems. Lifestyle and the environment may still play a part, but the adoption of a good skincare habits early, will leave you thankful later.

As I mentioned, during my young adult years I was not concerned about skincare. However, today social media is influencing young kids, some that aren’t even teenagers. And while its encouraging kids are thinking about skincare, their desire for products that are unnecessary and too harsh for their skin is a downside.

Encouraging younger kids to wash their face and to moisturize and to wear sunscreen every day is beneficial. It lays the foundation of good habits and helps prevent future issues. Hopefully, as they grow older, they consult with a skincare professional to tailor their skincare according to their needs.

Our Free Virtual Skincare Consultations have spoken to a few adolescents and advised them to seek and use appropriate skincare based on their age.

If they develop good skincare habits young, they might avoid needing active anti-aging skincare for decades. They simply need to dodge trendy products that aren’t suitable for their young complexions.

Today, Reviva continues to extoll the virtues of preventative skincare. Our products are organized into Skincare to Prepare, Skincare to Prevent, Skincare to Correct, and Skincare to Enhance.

The first two categories help prepare your skin and encourage preventing the development of damage while delaying the effects of aging. Our clay-masks, cleansers, and toners help to prepare your skin for follow-up treatments, just like they did 51 years ago.

We have an entire category of products dedicated to prevention. From serums and moisturizers infused with antioxidants and peptides. Most are gentle and effective for a wide range of skin types.

Yes, we have corrective skincare too that include peptides and brightening ingredients. But even these products are well balanced and tolerated. And our Skincare to Enhance offers a wonderful array of targeted eye serums, creams, and other specialty products.

I consider myself lucky today. I’ve been able to share my knowledge and Reviva’s products with my teenage daughter. As I mentioned at the start, skincare wasn’t a part of my early life.

So, she has started her preventative skincare journey early. Which means, she might just look youthful forever. Especially if she continues to use Reviva Labs skincare.
