Vitamin P: Good News for Spider Veins and Redness

In 1937, Dr. Albert Szent-Györgyi from Hungary won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his isolation of Vitamin C. In the course of his research of Vitamin C, he discovered various bioflavonoids, including flavanone, known as Vitamin P. During his research, he found that rutin and citrus bioflavonoids (Vitamin P) plus hesperidin (another bioflavonoid) have particularly beneficial effects on capillary strength and stability. By strengthening capillaries, Vitamin P can help improve their elasticity, while helping to resist future damage.

How does Vitamin P help with Spider Veins and Redness?

Spider veins are capillaries that have dilated beyond their maximum elasticity, causing tiny, “spidery” red threads to appear on the surface of the skin. These fragile, dilated capillaries do not remove wastes and toxins as efficiently as healthy capillaries, and the resulting congestion causes redness and sensitivity.

Causes of spider veins can range from extreme temperature changes to over-aggressive scrubbing, to skin “trauma” to internal health issues.

Flushing, or redness, occurs when a large amount of blood flows through the capillaries, causing them to expand. In time, the capillary walls lose elasticity, and become chronically dilated – leading to flushing and redness, particularly in the mid-facial area.

Because Vitamin P can help strengthen capillaries as well as helping to alleviate congestion, it can also help diminish the redness associated with both spider veins and reddened skin.

Vitamin P: Internal and External

In your local health food store, many leading vitamin brands feature Vitamin C Complex tablets or capsules that include Rutin and Citrus Bioflavonoids (Vitamin P). Some may even include hesperidia. Using these capsules as directed may help improve the appearance of spider veins.

Externally, Reviva Labs Spider Vein & Redness Day Cream contains Vitamin P, along with grapes extract to fight free radicals, which can help protect the fragile veins and capillaries. Soy and wild yam are also included to promote improvement in overall cellular functions, which can help further relieve congested capillaries.

Spider Veins on legs

Internally, the same Vitamin C complex capsules that feature Rutin and Citrus Bioflavonoids should also  help improve the appearance of spider veins. But, externally, a stronger formula is needed. Reviva Labs Varicose Veins Lotion with Vitamin P contains a potent hesperidin complex, plus a special horse chestnut extract in addition to the Vitamin P. Because this formula can also aid circulation, it can even help combat swelling of the ankles and lower legs.
