Some users experience a brief adjustment period — sometimes called retinisation — when they first start using retinol. This can include mild dryness, flaking, or temporary redness, particularly in the first two to four weeks of use. This is a normal response, not an allergic reaction, and typically subsides as your skin builds tolerance. To minimise sensitivity: start by using the serum two to three nights per week rather than every night, always moisturise after application, and wear broad-spectrum SPF every morning without exception. If irritation is significant, try buffering the retinol — applying your moisturiser first, then the serum on top. Avoid using other exfoliating actives (glycolic acid, salicylic acid) on the same evenings as retinol until your skin is fully adjusted.
