Study Demonstrates Bakuchiol Can Reverse Aging Process of Facial Cells

The researchers in “International Journal of Cosmetic Science” assessed the activity of bakuchiol utilizing in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo studies, and compared the findings.

The authors compared bakuchiol and retinol, a well-known topical anti-aging treatment, in terms of their activity profiles in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo. In comparison to retinol, the antioxidative power of bakuchiol was particularly impressive. Furthermore, wounds treated with bakuchiol revealed a marked rise in epidermal regeneration, whereas retinol did not.

After a month of using a bakuchiol-containing formulation on the afflicted area, FN protein values were recorded as significantly higher than in areas that had not received treatment and those that were treated with the vehicle.

The results suggested that bakuchiol is efficacious in multiple directions to combat signs of aging skin. Its activity profile had some similarities with retinol, and simultaneously provided some novel benefits, particularly in terms of the stimulation of FN and the quickening of epidermal regeneration and wound healing.
