Hi, I’m Maddy, and I’m Maddy’s Mom. Make sure you like and subscribe to see more in the future. Let’s get into today’s topic.

It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to realize, the more complicated you make something, the less likely it’ll get done.

The same goes for your skincare.

Not long ago, K-Beauty inspired skincare trends involving twelve-step routines. Twelve steps? What normal person has time for that?

More recently, the trends have leaned towards skinamalism. A word that simply means… keep things simple.

This minimal approach to skincare focuses on the basics: cleanse, moisturize, and protect. I’m sure we can agree that three steps is easier than twelve.

Of course, you’re not limited to three items. You can do four or five steps. It’s more about creating a skincare routine that suits you – that you’ll stick with daily. You can always add a product to your core routine to customize it to meet your goals.

We’ve talked about starting your skincare journey early in previous webinars. Prevention is fundamental. It’s always easier to fend off a problem than it is to correct one.  Avoiding wrinkles is easier than removing them.

Consistency is also crucial. Studies show that successfully forming a good habit depends on how easy or hard the task is. Again, consider twelve steps versus four. Which one will you maintain day in day out.

This is why keeping your skincare stupidly simple is important. Consider the amount of time you’ll save every day with a quick, simple skincare routine.

Doing the basics right doesn’t mean sacrificing. You can simplify but get a variety of ingredients by choosing multi-functional products.  A moisturizer can include several key ingredients – such as, peptides, antioxidants, and emollients. Each step can deliver multiple ingredients and provide multiple benefits.

Take for example our Glycolic Acid Cleanser. It washes away the days dirt and makeup. But it also promotes exfoliation.

Or consider our Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, DMAE Crème – you’ll be moisturizing and firming while you nurture your skin with antioxidants too.

You can also mix-up your routine. You could cleanse and tone. Or you can add a serum before your moisturizer. Feeling adventurous, you can switch up products morning and evening. That is, change your moisturizers or serums day and night.

From time to time you can also switch products on a nightly basis. We often recommend this when customers want to use two products that are similar or that might require waiting longer between applications.

For example, you could use our 10% Glycolic Acid Crème on Monday night and switch to our Multi-Peptide Complex on Tuesday. And simply alternate each day or each week.

But don’t forget today’s premise – keep it stupidly simple. While you can still enjoy a wide variety of ingredients and products, the more complexity you add the less likely you’ll keep at it.

So, start simple. Establish your core skincare routine. Then, once you have that routine down, experiment with additions. But never veer too far from simple – that twelve-step routine is never to far away from becoming the next fad.
